Corps of Engineers and the Corporate Commission of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe partner on sewer service extension in Mille Lacs County

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently partnered with the Corporate Commission of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe to expand the existing sewer service in Mille Lacs County, Minn.

There will be a project partnership agreement signing ceremony commemorating this milestone on Friday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m., at the Grand Casino Mille Lacs, in the Autumn Room. Col. Dan Koprowski, St. Paul District will represent the Corps of Engineers for this event.

The Mille Lacs sewer system extension will provide service where it had not been previously, accommodating the projected growth and development in the area in the near future. It will provide more reliable sanitary services to residents and businesses currently on unreliable septic tank systems and reduce the risk of water contamination at the nearby surface waters, such as Mille Lacs Lake, as well as the area groundwater resources. Components of the project to be constructed in the coming year include the construction of a sewer line from Eddy’s Resort to the existing wastewater treatment facility.

The nearly 650 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2012 $175 million budget, nearly 2,800 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $271 million to the national economy.
