Mouse River Flood Protection Project receives $61.45 million in Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act plan

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, received $61 million to complete the Maple Diversion Channel and levees north of city of Minot, North Dakota’s City Hall in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Plan released today.

This project is a part of the much larger Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project within the Mouse, or Souris, River basin. The work, once complete, will reduce flood risk like the one that caused significant damage in 2011. The federally funded Maple Diversion Project will connect phases 1 and 3 of the plan and complete the flood risk reduction in northwestern Minot. With the funds, Corps engineers will finalize their plans to begin construction of the project as soon as possible.

“Receiving $61.45 million to deliver the federal portion of the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project is wonderful news,” said Col. Karl Jansen, St. Paul District commander. “We are thrilled to advance our partnership with the Souris River Joint Board and remain committed to doing our part in fulfilling the vision of comprehensive flood risk reduction for the great people of Minot and the Souris River valley!”
