Corps meeting on dredge management in Winona rescheduled for Feb. 21

Published Feb. 7, 2019

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is rescheduling a public meeting on Mississippi River dredged material in Winona, Minnesota, to Feb. 21.

The meeting – originally scheduled for Jan. 31, but cancelled due to severe weather – will be held Feb. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson St.

The meeting will focus on commercial navigation trends, channel maintenance and dredged material management planning, to include a brief discussion regarding the real estate process.

The Corps is currently revising its dredged material management plan for Mississippi River Pool 6, which encompasses Winona. The final plan will identify temporary and permanent placement locations for dredged material. Similar plans are being prepared in Pools 4 and 5. The plans, once complete, provide the path forward to continue maintaining the 9-foot navigation channel for the next 20 years, and possibly longer. An environmental assessment will be prepared as a part of each plan.
