ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, started working on a bank stabilization repair project along the Gull River near the Corps’ Gull Lake Dam, near Brainerd, Minnesota, today, Nov. 17. The Corps’ maintenance and repair crew out of Fountain City, Wisconsin, is performing the repairs. Construction should be completed by early December. The construction completion timeline may be impacted by site conditions and/or inclement weather. The repairs include bringing in sand and topsoil to fill cracks that developed when the embankment eroded as well as placing riprap, or rock material, to protect the repairs and prevent future erosion. The Gull Lake Dam Road will be reopened to traffic once the repairs are complete. The Corps, as a part of the repair efforts, developed an Environmental Assessment and determined there are no significant impacts related to the construction. A copy of the EA is available on our website at: http://www.mvp.usace.army.mil/Home/Public-Notices/. The nearly 600 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the St. Paul District Fiscal Year 2016 $78 million budget, nearly 1,250 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $120 million to the national economy.
