ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded an $8.7 million contract to J.F. Brennan Company, Inc., of La Crosse, Wisconsin, to unload dredged material in Wabasha, Minnesota, Sept. 23. The contractor is expected to begin moving the dredged material during the summer of 2016. In all, nearly 800,000 cubic yards of dredged material will be moved from Crats Island, near Wabasha, via a pipeline route that is approximately 5 miles long. The material will be placed at the Corps’ Wabasha Gravel Pit located near the intersection of U.S. Highway 61 and Bruegger Valley Road. The Corps is removing the material from the island to ensure there is enough room for the future placement of dredged material from the Mississippi River. The nearly 650 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2014 $100 million budget, nearly 1,600 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $155 million to the national economy.
