Corps of Engineers presents Grand Forks, N.D., resident with National Water Safety award

Maj. Gen. John Peabody, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mississippi Valley Division commander, presented Carma Hanson of Grand Forks Safe Kids a National Water Safety award on behalf of the National Water Safety Congress at the Grand Forks, N.D., airport July 31.

Hanson was selected to receive a Region 2 National Award of Merit from The National Water Safety Congress for 2013. She was nominated for her role as coordinator of Grand Forks Safe Kids and their continued partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, in educating the children of Grand Forks about water and boating safety thru the “Kids Don’t Float” program. Hanson was nominated for this award by Corps' Park Ranger Scott Tichy from the St. Paul District's Lake Ashtabula Recreation Site in Valley City, N.D.

There were four recipients of this award nationally. Region 2 includes the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
