The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is closing Lock and Dam 6, near Trempealeau, Wis., for winter renovation and maintenance work Dec. 3.
This lock will be dewatered during the winter to perform this work. Scheduled maintenance during the dewatering includes repairing concrete; repairing, sandblasting and painting the miter gates and replacing the bubbler system. Due to ongoing construction at the site, the area will be off limits to unauthorized personnel.
This rehabilitative work is scheduled approximately every 15 to 20 years on each St. Paul District lock and dam. Lock and Dam 6 was last dewatered in 1994. The lock is scheduled to reopen March 11.
Because of the closure, locks and dams north of Lock and Dam 6 will also be closed Dec. 3 - or earlier, depending on the weather. Businesses with urgent traffic during this time should call Bryan Peterson at (651) 290-5986 or Lisa Lund at (651) 290-5147.
