ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is increasing outflows today from the Lac qui Parle Reservoir, which is located upstream of Montevideo in west-central Minnesota.
Due to heavy rains the Lac qui Parle basin has received over the last several days, the reservoir is at a pool elevation of 937 feet and is rising. The Corps’ current outflow is 3,300 cubic feet per second, or cfs, and will increase to 5,500 cfs at incremental intervals throughout the day.
Releases are expected to remain high for at least a week. Target pool elevation for this time of the year is 933 feet.
The Corps is coordinating with the National Weather Service to update forecasted river stages at Montevideo, Minn., and downstream communities on the Minnesota River. The Corps’ is reviewing the daily inflows and pool elevations to determine if outflow should be adjusted.
