Purpose
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a customer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the agencies have a national level interagency agreement in place for Interagency and International Support (IIS). The Corps’ support will fill a need for the VA regionally by providing rehabilitation and construction of health care facilities for veterans and their families.
Location
The VA has 23 health care networks. The Midwest Veterans Affairs Integrated Service Network, also known as VISN 23, serves more than 430,000 enrolled veterans and their families residing in the states of Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and portions of Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Description
Health care services in VISN 23 are delivered through an integrated system of eight hospitals, 63 community-based outpatient or outreach clinics, eight community living centers and four domiciliary residential rehabilitation treatment programs. VISN 23 employs over 12,500 full-time employees and has an annual operating budget in excess of $2.5 billion. The remodeling and upgrades to these facilities will allow the VA to deliver those important services to veterans and their families.
Status
The Corps supports the Minneapolis and St. Cloud VA Medical Centers with design and construction oversight. The Corps has supported VISN 23 in construction oversight, design-build services and contract administration services.
In fiscal year 2024 project agreements includes supervision and administration of window/facade contracts at the Minneapolis Medical Center and construction oversight support, parking lot, and underground utilities at the St. Cloud Medical Center.
