Marshes are wetlands composed of cattails, lake sedges, burlrushes, wild rice, arrowheads and other herbaceous vegetation growing in shallow water that may be seasonal to permanent. This example is of Deep Marsh Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Minnesota.
