District surveyor judges Future City Competition

Jon Gustafson, chief surveyor for the St. Paul District, helped judge the Future City Competition that was held at the University of Minnesota, Sat., Jan. 18, where he represented National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, or NCEES, as the technical judge for the award for Best Land Surveying Practices. Future City is an engineering competition for middle school students throughout the region. This year, more than 60 teams enrolled from North Dakota and Minnesota. The competition spans September through October and the student teams submit multiple products, including a SimCity model, 500-word narrative of their City and a 2000-word research essay. The competition culminates with teams submitting 50" x 25" models of their city and making presentations to judges.
