The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day Saturday, Sept. 26.

Corps of Engineers extends comment period on NorthMet Mining project

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is seeking public comments on a new permit application submitted by NewRange Copper Nickel, LLC, for the development of the NorthMet Mine in St. Louis County, Minnesota. The comment period has been extended from Sept. 12, 2026 until Sept. 27, 2026, to ensure that sufficient opportunity is provided to the public to consider and submit comments regarding the Corps of Engineers federal action.

Corps of Engineers celebrates McGregor Lake restoration project completion

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will celebrate the completion of its $25 million McGregor Lake habitat rehabilitation and enhancement project with a ribbon cutting, Sept. 22. The event is open to the public and will take place at the Marquette Marina Pavillion at 1 p.m. in Marquette, Iowa.

Corps of Engineers launches new towboat “Fountain City”

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, announces the launch of its new maintenance and repair towboat, the “Fountain City,” Aug. 26 from the Steiner Construction Company Inc. shipyard in Bayou La Batre, Alabama. The vessel will be delivered to the Fountain City Service Base, Fountain City, Wisconsin.

Corps of Engineers awards $6.3 million contract for Pool 9 restoration habitat project

PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded a $6.3 million contract to Dubuque Barge and Fleeting (doing business as Newt Marine Service) of East Dubuque, Illinois, Aug. 12, for the construction of the Reno Bottoms Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project on the Upper Mississippi River near New Albin, Iowa.
