  • Corps of Engineers releases Lock and Dam 7 statistics for the 2014 navigation season

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released the 2014 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today, Dec. 10. The 2014 navigation season was one of the shortest seasons on record. A historically late start, coupled by summer floods and emergency dredging, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 7, near La Crescent, Minnesota, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 3,577 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 3,323 lockages during the 2013 season.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released the 2014 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today, Dec. 10. The 2014 navigation season was one of the shortest seasons on record. A historically late start, coupled by summer floods, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 10, in Guttenberg, Iowa, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 2,847 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 3,055 lockages during the 2013 season.
  • Corps seeks comments on proposed repair plans for Lock and Dam 1 in Minneapolis

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is seeking comments on a Clean Water Act evaluation to make repairs at Lock and Dam 1 in Minneapolis. The Corps is developing plans to repair scouring immediately downstream of the dam. The plan includes placing more than 14,000 cubic yards of rock along the entire width of the dam and up to 150 feet downstream. In all, an estimated three acres south of the dam will be impacted by the project.

  • Mississippi River Lock and Dam 5A closed May 23 to replace damaged gate

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will close Lock and Dam 5A on the Mississippi River, near Fountain City, Wis., Thursday, May 23, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to replace an upstream miter gate that was severely damaged last week after being struck by a barge.
