ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is temporarily closing its Clamshell Lake boat landing located on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes, near Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, Oct. 5.
The approximate two-and-a-half-week closure is necessary to perform maintenance on the ramp to ensure it is safe for everyone that uses it.
“The project will greatly improve the public boat ramp and ensure the continued safety of our visitors and their equipment,” said Jason Hauser, lead natural resources specialist.
An alternative ramp for the public is the Lower Hay access point off City Road 145 and Rustic Point Road near Pequot Lakes.
Over time, activities such as power loading boats onto trailers at boat landings damages the ramps. The activity often creates large holes at the end of the ramp which can be extremely dangerous.
The Corps of Engineers is the nation’s leading federal providers of outdoor recreation. The St. Paul District operates 49 recreation areas, ranging from public boat landings along the Mississippi River to visitor centers at our locks to full-service campgrounds.
