ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will temporarily close the boat launch at Gull Lake, near Brainerd, Minnesota, to reconstruct the ramp, beginning Sept. 27. The ramp will be closed for about two weeks.

Over time, activities such as driving boats onto trailers at landings and propeller wash erodes the sediment at the end of the ramp surface, creating a large hole. Heavy use of large vehicles up and down the launch ramp slowly wears away the surface, creating potholes in the ramp.

“The reconstruction work will ensure the continued safety of ramp users and their equipment at the Gull Lake Recreation Area,” said Brian Turner, lead natural resources specialist.

Alternate ramps for the public include the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ north and east public water accesses on Gull Lake.

The Corps of Engineers is the nation’s leading federal provider of outdoor recreation. The St. Paul District operates 49 recreation areas, ranging from public boat landings along the Mississippi River to visitor centers at our locks to full-service campgrounds.
