  • Corps of Engineers releases 2024 Lock and Dam 3 navigation stats

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released its 2024 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today, Jan. 22.
  • Corps of Engineers awards miter gate contract for two locks and dams

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently awarded an $18 million contract to G&G Steel, Inc., of Russellville, Alabama, for the fabrication of new miter gates at Lock and Dam 3, near Welch, Minnesota, and Lock and Dam 4, near Alma, Wisconsin.
  • UPDATE: Locks and Dams 1 and 3 are now open

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, announced today that Lock and Dam 1, in Minneapolis, is now open to all commercial traffic, and Lock and Dam 3, in Welch, Minnesota, is open to navigation traffic. Be advised that Lock and Dam 1 flows are at 30,000 cubic feet per second with floating debris creating potentially hazardous conditions for recreational traffic; therefore, the lock is closed to recreational traffic until water flows decrease and the excessive amount of floating debris is reduced.
  • Corps closes Lock and Dam 3 due to high Mississippi River flows

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, closed Lock and Dam 3, located upstream of Red Wing, Minnesota, to all traffic until further notice due to high flows over 125,000 cubic feet per second, or cfs. It is anticipated that this lock will be reopened July 4, but it is weather dependent.
  • Corps of Engineers awards two $2 million contracts for Auxiliary Lock Bulkhead Slot Installation at Lock and Dam 3 and 9

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded two, $2 million contracts to Togiak Management Services LLC of Anchorage, Alaska, to construct bulkhead slots on the intermediate wall and river wall upstream of the miter gates in the auxiliary lock chamber at Lock and Dam 3 located in Welch, Minnesota, and Lock and Dam 9 located in Eastman, Wisconsin.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released its 2023 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today.
  • Corps of Engineers to close 4 locks and dams for maintenance

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is closing four of its locks and dams in in early December for maintenance. The closures will officially end the 2023 navigation season on the Mississippi River between Minneapolis at Guttenberg, Iowa.
  • Corps awards $2.4 million for Lock and Dam 3 auxiliary lock installation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded a $2.4 million contract to American Mine Services (AMS) of Boulder, Colorado, on Sept. 28, to construct bulkhead slots on the intermediate wall and river wall upstream of the miter gates in the auxiliary lock chamber at Lock and Dam 3 located in Welch, Minnesota, on the Mississippi River.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, closed Lock and Dam 4, near Alma, Wisconsin, April 17, to all commercial and recreational traffic due to high Mississippi River water levels.
