ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Headquarters selected St. Paul District employee and Burnsville, Minnesota, resident Steve Eggers as its 2016 Don Lawyer Regulator of the Year award recipient.
The Don Lawyer Award was established in 1984 to honor an outstanding regulator who exemplifies superior public service with a commitment to upholding the Corps regulatory mission of protecting aquatic resources while allowing for reasonable development. The recipient is selected by the Chief of Engineers. This award is the highest regulatory recognition a Corps employee can receive and recognizes individuals for their superiority in the field of regulatory operations and his or her contribution to maintaining the integrity of the regulatory program.
“Steve’s expertise and dedication have had a profound and lasting influence on the Corps’ regulatory program regionally and nationally,” said Chad Konickson, St. Paul District regulatory branch chief. “Steve’s contribution to ensuring that regulatory decisions are rooted in sound science can’t be overstated, and I can think of no one more deserving of this award.”
Eggers is a senior ecologist with the St. Paul District and has worked for the district since 1978. He received his award from Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite, Chief of Engineers and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Commanding General, at the National Awards Ceremony in Washington D.C., Aug. 4.
The nearly 600 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response.
