ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is seeking comments on the draft Pool 6environmental assessment for the beneficial use of dredged material.
The Corps is proposing to place dredged material at two new sites in Pool 6. One of the locations will be used to restore a portion of land that has eroded at the head of Mosquito Island downstream of Winona, Minn., at river mile 721.9. The other location will be used to fill a basin in an industrial park owned by the city of Winona, Minn.

A public review and comment period on the draft environmental assessment begins today and will end July 7. The nearly 650 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2011 $175 million budget, nearly 2,800 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $271 million to the national economy.
