Blackhawk Park reopening, limited campsites available

Published May 30, 2014

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is reopening Blackhawk Park, located near De Soto, Wis., with limited campground and river access availability.

The west camping loop, which contains sites 40-73, the Green Lake boat landing and limited day-use areas are currently available. The boat launch near the main channel and other areas in the park remain closed due to impacts from high river levels. These areas will be opened as conditions allow.

Reservations can be made online at http://www.recreation.gov. For more information on conditions, please contact park staff at (608) 648-3314.

Blackhawk Park was initially closed May 5, due to high river stages on the Mississippi River.

The nearly 650 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2011 $175 million budget, nearly 2,800 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $271 million to the national economy.
