Mound, Minn., resident selected as Corps’ Landscape Architect of the Year

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Renee McGarvey, St. Paul District landscape architect, reviews a landscape design at the district's headquarters in St. Paul, Minn., Nov. 13.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Headquarters in Washington, D.C., recently announced its selection of Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employee and Mound, Minn., resident Renee McGarvey as the recipient of its 2013 Landscape Architect of the Year Award.

McGarvey received this top honor for her wide range of design, communication and coordination skills that enabled her to perform many roles within the district’s design branch. In recent years, McGarvey provided technical leadership on two of the largest and highest profile projects in the district – the Devils Lake, N.D., Flood Damage Reduction Project and the Fargo, N.D., / Moorhead, Minn., Metropolitan Area Flood Risk Management Study.  

"We are very proud that Renee received this recognition; she is truly deserving of it,” said Jim Mosner, McGarvey’s supervisor. “As any of her peers in engineering, project management and construction will attest – her helpfulness, quality of her products and her dedication to satisfying her customers is superb." He added McGarvey’s demonstrates her professionalism by her commitment to providing superior quality products while always taking care of the customer. 

McGarvey said, “I am very appreciative to have been even considered for the award, there have been so many excellent award recipients in years past. It is a real honor to have received the award.”

McGarvey, formerly known as Renee Davison, is a Mound, Minn., native, and graduated from Mound Westonka High School before attending the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point and the University of Arizona. She has been an employee of the St. Paul District for more than six years.

The nearly 700 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2011 $175 million budget, nearly 2,800 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $271 million to the national economy.
