ST. PAUL, Minn. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, continues to only be able to offer limited camping at Blackhawk Park, located near De Soto, Wis., due to ongoing minor flooding and maintenance work.
Sites 40 to 73 of the West Loop Camping Area were originally closed for maintenance June 3-6 but wet conditions have extended the time needed to complete the work. The Corps anticipates being able to open these sites the week of June 10.
With the flooding and this closure, the number of sites will be very, very limited. Access to the shower facility in the West Loop may be limited as well. It is recommended to contact park staff at (608) 648-3314 before planning a camping trip during this time.
The nearly 700 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2011 $175 million budget, nearly 2,800 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $271 million to the national economy.
