ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded a $700,000 contract to Meyer Contracting, Inc., of Maple Grove, Minn., June 6 to repair levees in Velva, N.D., that were damaged during the 2011 flood.
The repairs include removing concrete rubble used to reinforce the temporary levees during the flood; re-shaping and setting back approximately 400 feet of existing levee; placing riprap along the damaged stretch of levee; and miscellaneous underground utility work. Additionally, riprap placement will be done at four separate locations along the flood control project in Velva where minor scour and/or erosion occurred during the flood.
Construction is likely to begin in July and the work is expected to be complete this fall.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, serves the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood risk reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response.
