Corps to host 22nd annual fishing derby at Leech Lake, Minn.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, invites everyone 14-years-old and younger to participate in the 22nd Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby, July 21. The derby will take place at the Leech Lake Dam and Recreation Area, 1217 Federal Dam Dr. NE, Federal Dam, Minn.

The event is free and will be held below the Leech Lake Dam. Registration and activities will begin at 11 a.m., and the fishing derby will go from noon to 1 p.m. Participants will be registered under one of three age groups to compete for prizes; 1 to 4; 5 to 9; and 10 to 14. Every participant gets a prize.

Hot dogs and pop will be served and local merchants are providing bait. Participants will need to bring a fishing pole and we recommend wearing a PFD, or personal floatation device, when near the water. For more information, please contact the park office at (218) 654-3145.
