Krohn Wetland Bank

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District
Published June 24, 2024
Expiration date: 7/24/2024

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The sponsor’s goal for the project is to restore 17.3 acres of historic shallow marsh and fresh wet meadow wetlands onsite by disabling subsurface drain tile present across the site and by removing an earthen embankment from the southeastern property boundary. In addition to generating wetland credits onsite, this restoration would reconnect the wetlands onsite to Middle Lake, which was historically disconnected by the embankment, reduce nutrient and sediment loading into the lake and downstream waters, and improve floodwater storage for the watershed and the lake. The site, if approved, would have compensatory wetland mitigation credits that applicants for Department of the Army permits could purchase to offset unavoidable losses of wetland or stream functions. The sponsor states that this bank is needed as the wetland.
