The District’s snow survey crew has already traveled more than 2,500 miles – and counting – to measure the snow pack at 46 different locations throughout NorthDakota and Minnesota, with scheduled stops this week in Wisconsin. Taking into account snow depth and Snow Water Equivalent (how much moisture is sitting in the snow), engineers can more accurately predict the amount of water entering reservoirs and waterways during snow melt – which ultimately determines how much water is drawn out of reservoirs to keep communities safe and navigable waters at optimal levels.
