Ray Marinan, Natural Resource Specialist in the St. Paul District’s Environmental Section, inspects flow through the French Lake Culvert at Mississippi River Lock & Dam 7 near LaCrosse, Wis. The gated culvert, which is adjusted to a winter setting, was installed in the mid-1990s to provide aerated water from Lake Onalaska to French Lake, located on the downstream side of the dike. French Lake is a popular ice fishing area and the water flow helps maintain good water quality for fish.
