As part of the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Area Flood Risk Management Project, land upstream of the southern embankment will be used for staging of floodwaters during high flows. As a result, Interstate 29, which floods under existing conditions, will be elevated so that traffic can continue during staging of floodwaters and can cross over the southern embankment.
