1. Project Proponent. St. Paul District, Corps of Engineers, 332 Minnesota Street, Suite E1500, St. Paul, Minnesota 55101.
2. Project Location. The proposed project is within the Leech Lake Recreation Area Cass County, Minnesota
3. Summary of the Proposed Project. In winter 2024, two overhead electrical lines which service two vault toilets fell over. The Corps proposes to replace the overhead electrical lines with underground electrical line. The Corps would install the electrical lines via trenching to a depth of 18 – 24 inches below surface and connecting to a nearby campsite hookup and security light pole
4. Construction Schedule. Contingent on funding, weather, and river flow conditions, repairs will begin late Spring 2025.
5. Coordination. The proposed action to repair the dam constitutes a Federal undertaking subject to compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended, which requires Federal agencies to consider the effects of their actions on historic properties. In compliance with regulations implementing Section 106, this notice provides information on a proposed action’s effects on historic properties and provides an opportunity for members of the public to provide comments and input. Interested parties are requested to provide comments by May 19, 2025. This notice is supplemental to any consultation with Tribal Nations or State Historic Preservation Office under Section 106 of the NHPA.
