Lock and Dam 3 forest mitigation
- The St. Paul District environmental stewardship section has been busy lately planting trees near Bay City, Wis. The reforestation project began as a way to mitigate floodplain forest and wetlands that were lost due to the nearly $70 million dollars in renovations to Lock and Dam 3, near Red Wing, Minn.

Flood 2011: A reflection

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, actively participated in multiple flood events during 2011. Specifically, the Corps helped communities along the Red River of the North and the Souris River as historic flood levels impacted thousands of local citizens.

Lock staff at the St. Paul District's Lock and Dam 5, near Minnesota CIty, Minn., recently had to quickly respond to a canoeist that was taking on water near the dam.
The Maple River aqueduct was constructed by the University of Minnesota, St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, allows scientists to learn how the water will flow through the aqueduct and how best to design the structure. The aqueduct is one of the components of the planned Fargo, N.D./Moorhead, Minn., flood risk management project.  
  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District welcomed the first line tow of the 2014 navigation season to St. Paul, Minn., April 16. Corps lock operators locked the Motor Vessel Angela K through Lock and Dam 2, near Hastings, Minn., around 5 p.m., with 12 barges. 
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, celebrated the arrival of its newest vessel, the Model Vessel Curt Larsen, with a christening ceremony at Lock and Dam 2 in Hastings, Minn., April 16.
