  • City of Wolverton Flood Damage Reduction Levee Project

    Expiration date: 11/19/2025

The project would affect approximately 0.64 acres waters of the United States associated with the Red River. The project/review area is located within the town of Wolverton north of Park Avenue and west of 1st Street in Section 28, Township 136 North, Range 48 West; at Latitude 46.565720 and Longitude -96.732780; in Wolverton, Wilkin County, Minnesota. The applicant states that as part of a settlement agreement between the Metro Flood Diversion Authority (MFDA) and the city of Wolverton, it was agreed that the MFDA would provide funding to construct and perpetually maintain 500-year flood protection for the city of Wolverton. The project would provide permanent 500-year flood protection to the city by routing the overland flow around town and preventing the Red River of the North from backing up into town. The permanent flood protection will be certified through FEMA, so residents of Wolverton would no longer be required to pay for flood insurance. The regulated water is an unnamed tributary to the Red River and is located within the town of Wolverton. The majority of the tributary is surrounded by cultivated farm fields and vegetated buffer. A portion of the tributary abuts a residential area in Wolverton.
