Water releases increased at Lac Qui Parle Dam

ST. PAUL, Minn. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, increased the outflow from its
Lac Qui Parle Dam, located on the Minnesota River in west-central Minnesota, from 550 cubic feet per second, or cfs, to 2,500 cfs, Aug. 17.

The Upper Minnesota River basin received around 3 inches of rain during the past several days. This rain increased the Lac Qui Parle pool elevation. It is currently at 933.6 feet and is expected to crest at approximately 938.3 feet on Aug. 27. The normal pool elevation for this time of the year is 933 feet. The Corps anticipates maintaining an outflow of 2,500 cfs into early September.

The nearly 600 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the St. Paul District Fiscal Year 2016 $78 million budget, nearly 1,250 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $120 million to the national economy.
