Planning efforts underway after latest NWS spring hydrologic outlook
Crews with the St. Paul District set out to remove ice build-ups in the Upper St. Anthony Falls lockchamber this week and last, clearing the way to ensure operability of the gate should it be needed to mitigate impacts of potential spring flooding. Of the 13 locks and dams in the St. Paul District, only Upper and Lower St. Anthony Falls were constructed to mitigate the impacts of floods – the other 11 were constructed to maintain pool elevations for the 9-Foot Navigation Channel Mission. Thanks to the women and men working hard as part of this effort, the flood gate will be ready on time should the district need to respond to potential spring flooding.
