Published April 22, 2015

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is hosting a public meeting May 4 about the Marsh Lake ecosystem restoration project to update the public on the current plan and get feedback to better the project.

The meeting will take place at the Lac qui Parle Wildlife Management Area and State Park Headquarters office, 14047 20th St. Northwest, Watson, Minnesota, from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Corps staff will be on hand to provide a brief update on the current plan and timeline. The staff will also be seeking public comments in preparation for an upcoming supplemental Environmental Assessment.

The Marsh Lake project will improve the nearly 4,500-acre lake, near Appleton, Minnesota. The nearly $11.5 million project also includes re-routing the Pomme de Terre River and modifying the existing dam to incorporate a fish passage.

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in June 2016. The project is being funded by Corps of Engineers and the Upper Minnesota Watershed Association in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The nearly 650 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2014 $100 million budget, nearly 1,600 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $155 million to the national economy.
