Corps of Engineers to host flood risk reduction workshop in North Dakota

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting a workshop in Minot, North Dakota, April 13, to discuss methods available to reduce flood risks.

The workshop will focus on developing strategies to reduce flood risks to individual structures in flood-prone areas. The workshop is open to the public. Due to workshop material printing requirements, reservations are appreciated. Please send reservations to info@mouseriver.com with your name and contact information no later than April 8. 

The workshop will be located at the Minot City Auditorium – Room 301, 420 Third Ave. SW, Minot, from
8 a.m.–4 p.m. The Corps is working with the Souris River Joint Board and the North Dakota State Water Commission to facilitate this workshop.

“We’re looking forward to discussing the options property owners have to reduce their flood risks and protect their structures,” said Terry Zien, Corps floodplain manager. 

The nearly 650 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2014 $100 million budget, nearly 1,600 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $155 million to the national economy.
