ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded a $335,500 contract to Newt Marine Service, of Dubuque, Iowa, July 9 to repair and reinforce the embankments at Lock and Dam 10 in Guttenberg, Iowa.

The repairs include placement of bedding and riprap on the downstream slopes of the embankments at the storage yard, and the western spillway abutment wall, and will extend back approximately 200 feet from the structures. Additional class 5 material will also be added to the crown of the embankment as a driving surface.

Construction can begin in August 2014, and the work is expected to be complete Sept. 30, 2015.

The nearly 650 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2011 $175 million budget, nearly 2,800 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $271 million to the national economy.
