MINNEAPOLIS -- Col. Dan Koprowski, St. Paul District commander, speaks at the University of Minnesota’s Reserve Officer’s Training Corps, or ROTC, Leadership Lecture Series Oct. 14.

Col. Dan Koprowski, St. Paul District commander, spoke to more than 150 U.S. Army cadets and U.S. Navy midshipmen at the University of Minnesota on Oct. 14.

Koprowski spoke at the University of Minnesota’s Reserve Officer’s Training Corps, or ROTC, Leadership Lecture Series.

The purpose of this lecture series is to educate cadets and midshipmen on leadership, give insight to them on how to be a leader and to prepare them for their future in the military.

Koprowski delivered an interactive session combining personal experiences, military and personal history and leadership fundamentals. Illustrating how to be an effective leader, Koprowski said “You have to be there to make stuff happen.”

Following the lecture, the future military leaders asked questions about entering the military profession.  Koprowski addressed their concerns by offering advice and resources to succeed, but summarized it by saying “As a junior officer, lead by example, lead from the front.”

Koprowski concluded that the event was not only an opportunity to educate future leaders, but to promote the importance of the science, technology, engineering and math skills, or STEM, and the value the St. Paul District provides to the nation.
