  • Corps of Engineers hosting Lock and Dam 1 open house during Highland Fest

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is hosting an open house at Lock and Dam 1, located near Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis, Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The lock and dam, often referred to as the Ford Dam, is located at 5000 West River Parkway, Minneapolis. It is also adjacent to Minnehaha Park.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 2015 Mississippi River navigation season has arrived. The Motor Vessel New Dawn locked through Lock and Dam 2, near Hastings, Minnesota, at 7:45 a.m. this morning. She was pushing nine loaded barges en route to St. Paul, Minnesota.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is closing the Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock in Minneapolis to all navigation. The action is mandated as a result of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2014 with the requirement that the lock be closed on or before June 10, 2015.

The 2014 navigation season was one of the shortest seasons on record. A historically late start, coupled by summer floods, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 2, in Hastings, Minnesota, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 2,452 lockages at the lock during the 2014 navigation season. There were 2,574 lockages during the 2013 navigation season.

The 2014 navigation season was one of the shortest seasons on record. A historically late start, coupled by summer floods, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 3, in Red Wing, Minnesota, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 3,775 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 4,123 lockages during the 2013 navigation season.

A historically late start, coupled by summer floods, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 4, near Alma, Wisconsin, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 3,075 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 3,250 lockages during the 2013 season.

Despite the challenges, there were 2,845 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 3,095 lockages during the 2013 season.

The 2014 navigation season was one of the shortest seasons on record. A historically late start, coupled by summer floods and emergency dredging, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 6, near Trempealeau, Wisconsin, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 2,726 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 2,618 lockages during the 2013 season.
