  • Corps of Engineers releases Lock and Dam 5A statistics

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released the 2015 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today, Jan. 11.
  • Lock and Dam 5A to reopen by March 23

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will reopen Lock and Dam 5A, near Fountain City, Wisconsin, no later than March 23. The facility was originally scheduled to reopen today, March 9, but thick ice conditions indicate that navigation will not begin on the Upper Mississippi River until later than originally anticipated. Work crews are set to complete scheduled maintenance within the new timeframe.
  • Corps of Engineers releases Lock and Dam 5A statistics for the 2014 navigation season

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released the 2014 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today, Dec. 10. The 2014 navigation season was one of the shortest seasons on record. A historically late start, coupled by summer floods, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 5A, near Fountain City, Wisconsin, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 2,845 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 3,095 lockages during the 2013 season.
  • Mississippi River Lock and Dam 5A closed May 23 to replace damaged gate

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will close Lock and Dam 5A on the Mississippi River, near Fountain City, Wis., Thursday, May 23, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to replace an upstream miter gate that was severely damaged last week after being struck by a barge.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – Exactly 5,694 vessels and 7,556,928 tons of cargo passed through Lock and Dam 5A, located near Fountain City, Wis., during the 2011 navigation season from March 30-Dec. 2. The MV Tigre was the last tow to pass through Dec. 2.
