Corps closes several campsites at Blackhawk Park due to flooding

Published May 31, 2013

ST. PAUL, Minn. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will only be able to offer limited camping at Blackhawk Park, located near De Soto, Wis., this weekend, May 31 through June 2, due to minor flooding and extremely wet conditions.

Additionally, the Corps will close sites 40 to 73 of the West Loop Camping Area June 3 to 6 to do maintenance within this area.

With the flooding and this closure, the number of sites will be very, very limited. Access to the shower facility in the West Loop may be limited as well. It is recommended to contact park staff at (608) 648-3314 before planning a camping trip during this time.

The Corps plans to reopen the West Loop for the weekend of June 7 and other sites as river levels recede and conditions improve.

The nearly 700 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response.
