Damaged miter gate from Lock and Dam 5A
The damaged upstream miter gate from Lock and Dam 5A near Winona, Minn. Here, damage to the original gate, which was constructed when the lock and dam was being built in the 1930s, is clearly visible. A majority of the protective timbers were destroyed and many of the verticle support beams were folded back. The gate was severely damaged after being struck by a barge on May 16, 2013.
